The stadium is named in honour of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar The Ambedkar Stadium is one of the stadiums to have FIFA approved pitches for FIFA World Cup qualification matches in INDIA.. The stadium has hosted international football finals such as the 2007 nehru cup  Final and the 2009 nehru cup Final, in which it attracted a capacity crowd. The field is well maintained. Location is also great. Nearby metro station and bus stands also easy access to the stadium. Small scale matches of football are organised. The only thing I felt that could be improved are the stands and the sanitation facilities. Most of the stands are open, without any shelter or cover to prevent the heat. Instead of proper seats, there are stone made rows for people to sit. The cementing near the seats are also broken at some points. The toilets are very dirty and filthy and are located quite far from the stadium amongst the administrative blocks of the stadium.
