THIS PLACE IS VERY GOOD TO SPEND TIME AT EVENING. ESPECIALLY, AT WINTER AS BECAUSE MANY TYPES OF BIRDS LIKE COMMON MOORHEN AND DIFFERENT TYPES OF CRANES COME AT THIS TIME.

In winter season many migratory birds come in this lake. Bird watcher can visit that time.

The Santragachi Jheel of West Bengal's Howrah district has long been a well-known destination for migratory birds during the winter months. But lately the number of visiting birds has alarmingly gone down. Based on a verdict of the Environment Court, the water body has gone through an extensive cleanup mission which has finally proved to affect the environment on the reverse. The local municipality workers, who were assigned for the cleanup job have got rid of the water hyacinths that covered major portions of the lake. But this has damaged the eco-balance of the water body resulting in lesser number of visiting birds compared to yesteryears, claim environmentalists. According to them, immediate measures are to be taken to repair thge damage done, otherwise the birds will completely shun the Santragachhi Jheel forever

Best place for birding ( Bird Photography ) at winter. Please use 150-600 lens for clear and appropriate image. Go and enjoy.

Beautiful wetland in the city of Howrah. The place is famous for migratory birds those visit this place in winter. However the local people and the Govt or the Municipal body seems to be very less bothered to protect the bio-diversity of the wetland. Local peoples are eager to dump household wastes to the lake and make it dirty. It seems to me that the lake is crying!!
