  Bhopal's upper lake is the lifeline for Bhopal. Total water-bearing area of the lake is 31 sq km. In past it was the largest artificial lake in Asia. This lake of Bhopal was constructed by Parmar Raja Bhoj in the 11th century. It is said that the famous King Bhoja of Dhar, once suffered from an incurable skin disease. A saint advised that he would make a reservoir of 365 sources and take bath in it. King's servants discovered a valley which was situated at the estuary of the river Betwa. But the water of the Betwa river was not enough to fill this valley. Therefore, a dam was constructed to divert the water of another river flowing 32 km west of the valley. This dam was built near Bhojpur. The name of the huge reservoir, which was outcome of these efforts, named Bhojpala. On the name of the reservoir, this city was called as Bhojpal which became Bhopal in future.

  True lifeline of Bhopal..whole city is defined by the lakes and upper lake is the best among those. Having grown in house roughly 50mts from the lake, I cannot stop staring at beauty of the lake day or night. Apart from providing water to large part of bhopal, lake makes a perfect place to spend those evening with friends or family. With VIP road on one side and lake view road on other, lake has enough to offer to everyone from fitness freaks to people just looking to chill. Definitely this is one place I always make sure to visit.

  Nice place to hangout within the city .. on sunday so much rush ..but enjoyable at night time .. CCD and bars are also availaible ..

  Bhopal is the city of lake, the upper of the city is very beautiful place for outing, lake view is the very famous spot to spend time with family and friends, when people come bhopal they must visit lake view, madhya pradesh government provide my facility to visit there.
