::Chennai Egmore is one of the Oldest Railway Stations of India. It was opened in the year 1905. It is the Second major Railway Station of Tamilnadu, next only to Chennai Central. It is built in Gothic Style of Architecture. It was the Head Quarters of S.I.R (South Indian Railways). It mainly caters to the Destinations in South Tamilnadu. Previously it was purely a Metre Gauge Terminal. Fastest Train of Metre Gauge System Vaigai Express (Chennai-Madurai) used to start from this Station. Egmore Station now has got 11 Platforms. Out of this 2 Platforms are for Suburban EMU Service and rest are for Long Distance Trains. Previously, this Station has the unique facility of Entering the Platform (right up to the Coach) which was not available anywhere in India. We can take our Car in Platform No:2 and take U turn and exit through Platform No:3. Now, this has become history. Apart from Trains to South, now trains to Dadar, Kachiguda (Hyderabad), Kakinada and Jodhpur too start from this Station. Station premises is maintained neatly. For a long time, there were no Restaurent within the Station. Now there is A2B Restaurent which is a nice one. Escalators are also available in some Platforms. In a nutshell, Egmore is not just a Railway Station. It has got so intertwined with the History of Chennai.

::Oldest station next to royapuram. The Station is being interlinked with metro and Tamilnadu Transport service which will be a major boost and making hassle free journey. Parking facilities must be enhanced. Ticket vending machine must be installed on platforms. More seating arrangements must be made. Proper drainage are required to arrest water shedding in the track and the foul smell.

::It is one of the oldest railway stations in the country (1908). It was one of the largest railway stations in the British Empire when it was built. It is less crowded and relatively cleaner than Chennai Central. But, the number of trains originating from this station is also less. Most of the trains originating here are South bound and have destinations within the state.
