::Esplanade is a station of the Kolkata Metro. The station is located at Esplanade, at the northern end of Chowringhee Road/Jawaharlal Nehru Road in Kolkata, near New Market and the Oberoi Grand. Originally opened in 1984 as part of what is now Kolkata Metro Line 1, the station is being re-designed to be the largest station of the metro, as the interchange station between Line 1, Line 2, and Line 3.

::The best maintained metro station in Kolkata. The station is huge and fills you with awe. The station is clean and well maintained. It is also a great place for shopping. You can find all sorts of things at the shops and they are mostly not so crowded as people prefer shopping in the open at New Market or th streets in and around Esplanade area. As a result you may get things at a very cheap rate here.

::Nice place for simple shopping. You should know the art of bargaining to get things at cheaper rates. Shops seems endless and they span across kilometers. Even if you don't succeed in bargaining in one don't worry try the next shop as you can see the same item repeatedly. Ideal to go around evening after visiting some other places like Victoria memorial or Indian museum. It would be nice if you bring someone who knows to bargain well. That would save you effort.
