  Wonderful place to see. Many historic pieces making us to feel how our great grand parents lived with. Can spend couple of hours including Venkatappa Art Gallery, a must place if visiting Govt Museum. Cubbon Park is just walkable across.

  If one wants to understand ancient time in short time must visit the place.

  Located in close proximity to Cubbon Park, the Museum has a beautiful exhibit of coins, pottery, and inscriptions in Kannada, as well as weapons used during the different eras in History. A beautiful model of the Srirangapatna Fort is also on display. Paintings from different art schools across the country are also on display in the first floor. One can download the 'Pinkakin' app on your phone from the Playstore for an audio guide of the Museum - very helpful and informative. Poor service from the staff. Photography which is prohibited, is actually not being followed by visitors. The Venkatappa Art Gallery is also within the same premises, the same ticket can be used to visit the three floor art gallery, and also photography is not allowed. There is a canteen outside the Museum where you can buy food and water.

  Must visit place. The Government museum was established in Bengaluru during 1855, in grecco Roman style and it is one of the oldest museums in India. Dr. Edward Green Balfour was the first officer-in-charge of the museum. The museum started functioning in a temporary building at museum road and later shifted to the current place in 1877. The museum has rich collection and display of archaeological objects, stone sculputers , bronzes, traditional paintings, Indin and western coins. The museum has Kannadas oldest inscription Halmidi shasan.

  Interesting exhibits, but very poor attitude of the staff. I took 21 children between 8-12 years old, from Pramiti School, and it took nearly an hour to get from J P Nagar to the museum. When we asked about toilets, we were told that the museum building does not have toilets, and were told to go to Venkatappa Art Galley next door. The staff there reluctantly opened the *public* toilets for us.We went and visited the Museum thereafter, and after a couple of hours, were returning, so we decided we would take the children to the toilet again. To our dismay, the staff, especially the lady in charge, told us, that we had already used the toilet once, and that it would not be allowed again. I cannot understand why toilets in a place which we have got access should be locked, and why access should be restricted. I also find that apart from this review, there is no way I can give this feedback to those in charge of the Museum. I can only assume that the staff are too lazy to clean the toilets and hence take the law into their own hands regarding access. I hope they are instructed not to do so in future or penalized...government staff have very little accountability. Access to toilets, whether for children or for adults, is a must during working hours.
