The Gujari Mahal Archeological Museum, sometimes called the "Gwalior Fort Museum", is a state museum in Gwalior, located in the fortress of Gujari Mahal, also orthographed Gujari Mahal.[1] It displays numerous artifacts of the region, including a fragment of the Garuda capital of the Heliodorus pillar from Vidisha.[2] The palace of Gujari Mahal was built by Raja Man Singh Tomar for his wife Mrignayani, a Gujar princess. She demanded a separate palace for herself with a regular water supply through an aqueduct from the nearby Rai River.[citation needed] The palace has been converted into an archaeological museum. Rare artifacts at the museum include Hindu and Jain sculptures dated to the 1st and 2nd centuries BCE, miniature statue of Salabhanjika, terracotta items and replicas of frescoes seen in the Bagh Caves

Gujari Mahal was built by Tomar king Mansingh in 1486-1516. In this palace, an Archaeological Museum was established in 1920 by M.V. Garde, which was opened in 1922 for the audience. It is a symbol of the deep love of King Mansingh and the graceful Queen Mriganayani. According to the conditions of the queen, King Mansingh arranged to bring the drinking water to palace through the pipes from Maihar Rai village of Mrignayani, which was located 16 miles from Gwalior. Many artifacts have been made by digging on the stone segments of the palace. It is a double-storey building whose outer part is kept unchanged by the Archaeological Survey of India while the inside part has been converted into a museum. In the 28 rooms of this museum, rare ancient sculptures have been kept from Gwalior and surrounding areas. Gujari Mahal is near the Gwalior Gate of the fort.
