::Taking its first steps towards implementation of a central sports scheme, the district authorities have finalized land in two villages of Bareilly district to set up sports stadiums, giving a chance to youths from rural areas to make a career on the field. Under the central scheme â Rajeev Gandhi Khel Yojna â the district authorities have to set up mini stadiums in every block of the district in the next four years. As per the scheme, the stadium should cover a minimum area of six acres and each stadium will be constructed at a cost of Rs 1.60 crore. Besides, the Gram Samaj will have to provide the land free of cost to authorities for constructing the stadium. For setting up stadiums, the district authorities have finalized land in Rajpur Navada village under Bithri Chainpur block and Atha Kheri village in Majhgavan block of the district. âWe have sent a proposal to the sports directorate in Lucknow about the stadium that has to come up in Rajpur Navada village, but the authorities have not yet forwarded our proposal to the Centre as the land is falling short. The district magistrate has written to the revenue department for transferring two acres of land for setting up the stadium,â said Vivek Chandra Srivastava, district youth welfare officer. For the second stadium set to come up at Atha Kheri village in Majhgavan block, the district youth welfare officer has sent a proposal to tehsil authorities for transferring the land. âThe formalities of transfer of land for sports stadium will be completed in the next 15 days,â said Srivastava. He added, âWe are hunting for land for constructing stadium in 13 other blocks of the district but it is not an easy task.â The sport stadium will have facilities for both indoor and outdoor games. It will be equipped with a badminton hall, table tennis equipment and wrestling ring for indoor games. The authorities will also construct football, volleyball and basketball grounds along with athletic tracks. âThe new stadiums will provide a platform to budding players, especially who belong to rural areas, to showcase their talent,â said Srivastava. The central scheme was launched in 2014 by the former UPA government.Bareilly city already has three stadiums â Major Dhyan Chand Stadium in Cantonment area, Dori Lal Sport stadium in Model Town and one in the premises of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule (MJP) Rohilkhand University. The Dori Lal sports stadium is all set for an upgradation as the authorities are planning to renovate existing facilities, including rooms housing players.
