::Meenakshi Amman kovil is a historic Hindu temple located on the bank of Vaigai River, Madurai, Tamil Nadu. Temple main Gods are Meenakshi (Parvathy) and Sundareswarar (Sivan). Temple is under Tamilnadu government, Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments department. Recently a major fire broke out inside the temple, in which at least 40 shops were gutted. Temple authorities should send out all shops from temple premises, they are spoiling temple's heritage.

::THE temple in Tamil Nadu, dedicated to Goddess Meenakshi. Actually, it's not only a temple, it's a temple city with 4 entrances. Huge. Come early in the morning and there are not so many people. You can meditate in front of Nataraj statue. Don't miss "Thousand Pillar Hall", even if you have to pay 50 rs. Take the way to "museum" in the temple and you will get there. Highly recommended! Temple has also nice shops. Take at least 2 hours - better more - to visit whole area.
